Copeland- I Can Make You Feel Young Again

May 18, 2015

After almost 6 years since parting ways, Copeland's new full length album, Ixora, was released in November of 2014. As if that wasn't magical enough, they also went on another tour, so I surprised my husband with tickets for his birthday.  My musical dreams came true when I got to hear them play "When Paula Sparks" live one more time this past weekend at the Ready Room (which is obviously my favorite song). To elevate my fan-girl status to new heights, I also got another picture taken with Aaron Marsh & got a copy of the set-list with Aaron's signature next to my name. I was suddenly having flashbacks to their show at Mississippi Nights when they played with the Appleseed Cast & I also snagged a photo & the set list. It just goes to show you that even if all good things must come to an end, there is always the possibility that they can begin again. Well done, Copeland. You made me feel young again.

Check out this brand new video they released today, & catch them on the road with Paramore or headlining with their friends, Dallas based Indie Rockers, Valise. Happy listening.

A Colorful Chaos turns One!

May 14, 2015

Happy anniversary to us! Today marks one year since we started this little blog of ours. It all started with wives getting together while our husband's had band practice. And before we knew it, we birthed this little blog and are now celebrating one year! We thought we would share some of our favorite posts this past year and some of our most popular posts. Thanks for reading!

One of our favorite posts, and a reader favorite, was one of our very first ones, Paula's baby boy's first birthday. He celebrated with a vintage newsboy themed party. He is adorable, and now he will be celebrating his second birthday later this month! He's getting so big!

One of our more popular posts was Sharon's macrame wall hanging. Macrame has become one of our favorite things and hobbies. Hopefully an etsy shop will be opening soon....

Another favorite of ours is one of our first photo shoots with Atticus. Valentine's Day is one of Paula's favorite holidays, and she wanted to share it with her favorite little Valentine. He wasn't always cooperative, but in the end we snapped a couple good ones and had a lot of fun just chasing him around and wrangling him.

And another DIY, because Sharon is Mrs. Crafty. One of her favorite posts, and house projects, is her kitchen remodel. Still loving the color of the cabinets. Since then, even more house projects have been going on in this kitchen that we will share later.
Lastly, we loved celebrating Paula's birthday with some adorable fall fashion in the Central West End. We may prefer warmer weather, but we still love fall styles!

We hope you enjoyed reminiscing with us. We can't wait to see what lies ahead!

Local Loves: The Owl's Branch

May 13, 2015

Hoooooo is excited about summer being so close you can almost taste it?? *Insert emoji with its hand raised here*. Summertime summertime sum sum summertime is our favorite time of the year. We are so excited to put away our windbreakers, sweaters, and fleece-lined leggings. We have been so ready for bright, sunny days that go late into the evening, iced lattes and ice cream cones on the patio, and hanging poolside with our big, floppy sun hats.. That's why we were so excited when our friend, Aryn, owner of the adorable etsy shop, The Owl's Branch, showed us her brand new crochet tops that are perfect for the pool. We just love these soft, romantic cream and rose tops that she handmade. We can't wait to pair them with our favorite high waisted bottoms & over-sized shades for some fun in the sun. Can't you just imagine yourself rollerblading in these tops on Venice Beach? These tops are getting us so giddy for summer. You can get your very own custom-made top by visiting her shop!

Be sure to check out other handmade items in The Owls Branch etsy shop too. One of our other favorite items is this crocheted Peter Pan collar that, just like a bird, we want to put on everything! It's the perfect accessory to soften any outfit. Makes us want to put on our Mary Janes and skip through the park!

And as a special offer just for A Colorful Chaos readers, for the next week until May 22, the Owls Branch is offering free shipping! Just enter the promo code "AColorfulOwl" at checkout to receive the promotion. Don't miss out! Happy shopping and happy almost summer!

Mamma Mia! A Mother's Day Gift Guide

May 5, 2015

With Mother's Day just around the corner, we've been searching for the perfect gift for our mammas. If you're like us, and want to give something other than perfume or flowers, look no further! We've found a few lovely personalized ideas that are sure to make mamma happy. And you know what they say about mamma being happy!

For my first Mother's Day, my husband framed the above picture of me with my sweet baby. It was extra special to me because it was my first time ever seeing the photo. We had a family photo-shoot a few weeks earlier, and the photographer hadn't sent any previews yet. My husband contacted her without me knowing and asked if there were any pictures of me with the baby that he could purchase ahead of time. She happily sent him the photo, and I was so surprised! Moms love pictures. Maybe you could frame one of you and your mom too.

I love this heart shaped leather key-chain, handmade by The Roo Pouch. You can customize it by stamping anything on it that you would like: a special date, initials, or a sweet message like "love u mom". With so many different shape and color options, you're sure to find something unique that your mom will like!

If your mom is a jewelry fan (and whose mom isn't), then be sure to check out the San Fran husband and wife duo behind Leila jewelry. A lovely script necklace is the perfect way to show your mom some love. Je t'aime is my favorite!

For those of you whose mothers are the best cooks you've ever met, and you just can't get enough of your mother's fine home-cooking, then maybe this Rifle recipe box would be a perfect gift for either you or your mother! Your mother can store her favorite recipes in this beautiful vintage recipe box, or you can let your mother know how much you appreciate her home-cooking and ask her for all of her wonderful, delicious recipes that you can't live without. It's a win-win for all!

And because mothers, since the dawn of time, have always proudly displayed their kid's artwork on the fridge, why not make her day with a special DIY gift? And what mother doesn't love getting flowers? It's the best of both worlds! We found this lovely floral monogram DIY from Urbanic Paper that I think any mother could fall in love with. Plus, these lovely florals will never wilt. ;) You can spell out a word that describes her or use your family initials so this lovely gift can be admired all year-round!

Happy gifting, and happy Mother's Day!

Shop One Online: May Collection

May 1, 2015

Happy Friday and happy month of May! We're so happy and excited today, because a new month means a new piece from Shop One is releasing today! If you recall, we recently posted a local loves post about the shop, and we were so delighted to be asked to be a part of the May collection!

This month, Shop One is releasing their Sheer Point-Collar Blouse and Relaxed Pencil Skirt. These simple, yet classic, pieces are so chic and versatile, and we loved them. The blouse can be worn casually with your favorite boyfriend jeans & cons or heels, or pair it with the skirt for a more professional polish.

We also love the skirt with the Charlotte Crop from Shop One's previous collection.
Be sure to visit Shop One to read the May story and also to get your hands on these pieces before they're gone!
