Happy "Howl"oween!!

October 31, 2014

We went to the St. Louis Zoo last weekend when the weather was crazily still in the 80's & Atticus loved it! His favorite thing in the world is a puppy, it's the first thing he says when he wakes up in the morning, so we knew he had to be a puppy for Halloween. Since the weather was so beautiful, we took a few pre-costume family photos before our trip to the zoo too. Here are a few of the pics Sharon snapped (and one Kelsey took of Sharon & I while he was holding our little guy). Have a Happy Howl-oween!

Saint Louis Fashion Fund's Emerging Designer Competition

October 29, 2014

As you know, we were selected to be one of the official bloggers of St. Louis Fashion Week. We were more than thrilled for the opportunity to attend some of the events and see the latest styles and fashions in the country today. We loved seeing all of the talent that St. Louis Fashion Week had to offer.  One of our favorite events was the STL Fashion Fund's Emerging Designer Competition at the beautiful St. Louis Union Station.

Union Station was all dolled up for the fashion week festivities.  Shoe chandelier by Brown Shoe Company? We'll take one of those!

Saint Louis Fashion Week also gave new up and coming designers the chance to showcase their designs with the Designers to Watch competition. Guests got to vote for their favorite designs.

This collection by Truly Alvarenga, was our favorite!

We got to see many designers from across the country including Jessie LiuRemi CanarieWai Ming, and one of our favorites, Daniella Kallmeyer.

And wouldn't you know it, our favorite designer from the Designer Competition won! We loved having the opportunity to meet the People's Choice winner, Truly Alvarenga of Pink Elephant Designs. We can't wait to see what she unveils for us next!

We so enjoyed sharing all of the STLFW goodness with you, and we can't wait for next year!

Local Loves: Strange Donuts #StayStrange

October 24, 2014

If you live in St. Louis, enjoy breakfast, and love weird food, you may have already heard of Strange Donuts in St. Louis. Strange Donuts has just celebrated their one year anniversary, and with that celebration, they have also opened up their second store in one of our favorite neighborhoods!

Because the second location in Kirkwood is also close to our residence, we wanted to support them on the day of their grand opening! And yes, we were there bright and early when they opened the doors at 6 a.m. What can we say, we love breakfast! (Also, forgive us for the dark pictures. The sun still wasn't up yet!)

Strange donuts is a unique donut company, because they make your typical sugary donut, but they make savory ones too. A favorite among strange fans is the maple bacon. But their donuts also get "stranger," as they call their extreme strange donuts. One of their great business ideas is to not only make strange "dones", but they come up with some of their strange ideas by partnering up with other local restaurants around St. Louis. Some of their featured dones have included ice cream from the St. Louis sweet shop, Serendipity, and a pulled rib done from Sharon's favorite STL BBQ place, Bogarts!

If you haven't been, there are now two locations you can visit in Maplewood and Kirkwood. The "strangers" of the week are available in the evenings. To find out what the featured "done" of the week is and for other information about Strange Donuts, check them out here! And stay strange!

The Liebster Award

October 21, 2014

We absolutely love being connected with other bloggers! One of our favorite aspects of being involved with #STLFW (other than the fashion....of course!) is spending time with our dear blogger pals. We were nominated by one of our fellow STL bloggers (they won Blog of the Year at the Blogger Awards!), Fox & Gypsy. We're totally inspired by their style and their crazy cute DIY's.

The Liebster Award connects bloggers globally, and helps us all to get to know one another better! What a great networking tool. We're so honored to be nominated by the ladies of Fox & Gypsy. As a part of the nomination, the girls asked us to answer a few "get-to-know-you" questions (who doesn't love that!), and nominate our other favorite bloggers with our own list of questions!

Our Answers....

1. What are the five things that you always carry in your bag?
B: Burt's Bees Grapefruit Chapstick. Liquid eyeliner. Quarters (coffee money!). iPhone.

P. iPhone, juicy tubes LancĂ´me lip gloss, rose gold kate spade wallet, L'occitane hand cream, & cinnamon sugarless gum.

S. iPhone, Chapstick, my current book Insurgent. People always think I'm crazy when I pull out my mini tape measure but you would not believe how often that comes in handy. And fingernail clippers always come in handy too.

2. Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
B. I'm super inspired by old, incredible music. Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac...I love creating a soundtrack to my life. Oh, also, Cynthia Lennon. She was my favorite Beatles wife.

P. The book, To Kill a Mockingbird, so much so that I named my baby after my favorite character, Atticus.

S. My biggest inspiration is my little sister. She is always motivated to try new things and keep fit and stay healthy. Also she's pursuing dentistry and will be finished with school this spring. She's pretty much my idol.

3. What's your hidden talent?
B. I'm secretly a fabulous shower singer.

P. I've been known to write a good rhyme from time to time.

S. I love telling people I was into hip hop dancing. I wouldn't say it's a talent but people are sometimes shocked to hear I did it for two years.

4. What are you wearing as you type this?
B. My new fleece lined leggings (thank you Glik Click and the Well Dressed Midwest Blogger Lounge!) and my husband's From Indian Lakes pullover

P. A spaghetti strap paisley dress, tights, Miz Mooz boots, & a cozy cardi. I love sweater weather!

S. Luckily it's casual day at work, so I'm wearing skinny jeans, a lace top, sweater, and my UO elf-y canvas booties.

5. What was the last item you bought?
B. Randall took me on a shopping adventure for my birthday, so I stocked up on some fall weather wardrobe pieces from H&M!

P. A puppy Halloween costume for my little guy because he is in love with our Westie! His favorite word to say is "puppy" & he's pretty doggone cute...so it was an obvious choice.

S. At the STLFW blogger event, I got an Indiana Jones hat from Bronx Diba Shoes (as seen in the post below). I love it so much.

6. How long have you been blogging?
B. Since last May!

P. We started blogging in May while our hubbies were rockin out at band practice.

S. Ditto.

7. As a child, what did you want to be "when you grew up"?
B. I've always sort of wanted to be an actress. I'll take any excuse to make people laugh and be over the top dramatic.

P. An author or an anchor woman. I was a reporter for my undergrad college's news station. My old last name had a nice newsgirl ring to it: reporting for news center, I'm Paula Diamond.

S. There were a few things. Pediatrician, veterinarian, zookeeper. That's my favorite one.

8. What's going to be your big fall purchase?
B. I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair of brown boots and a closet-full of oversized cardigans.

P. The Anthro wine leather bomber jacket from my birthday wish list.

S. I'm on the hunt for a patio set. Maybe they'll be on sale now that it's cold out!

9. What's your biggest fear?
B. Spiders, primarily. Hate those little guys.

P. It was childbirth, but I'm so happy I overcame it 17 months ago when I had my beautiful blue-eyed baby boy.

S. My biggest fear is losing the people I love on this earth. I can only pray and hope they will be with Jesus, but dealing with the earthly loss is something I don't want to have too through.

10. What are your hobbies, besides blogging?
B. Drinking coffee and vinyl shopping with my cute husband. Cuddling with our kitten. Finding all of the most beautiful places in St. Louis.

P. Music is my heartbeat. I'm so glad I married a musician. He's been in four different bands in the past 9 years & I love going to all of his shows and other local shows with him.

S. Garage sailing, thrifting, and being a homebody with my husband.

Well Dressed Midwest VIP Blogger Lounge

October 15, 2014

Image c/o Alive Magazine

St. Louis Fashion Week is in full swing, and we're totally loving it! On Friday night, we headed out to Scape American Bistro in the Central West End (absolutely beautiful!) for the Well Dressed Midwest VIP Blogger Lounge. We loved having the chance to meet up with some lovely blogger friends and gear up for fashion week. Hang on to your fashionable hats ladies and gents, this recap is a long one but so worth it!

In addition to spending the evening eating delicious food (shrimp pizza that I'm still dreaming about), we were able to network with some incredible brands and do a little shopping. For each of the STLFW events, we have a great opportunity to step back and examine our own personal sense of style: what look truly represents us?

We know, you're favorite part...check out what we wore!

(Purse & Top: Urban Outfitters; Necklace: Forever 21; Sweater: Hong Kong; Hat, Pants, Shoes: Thrifted)
When I found these pants a couple years ago at a thrift store, I immediately fell in love with them. I thought STLFW would be the perfect occasion for busting them out for a night of mingling and perfectly feminine for a fun girls' night out. I found this hat at a flea market while in Orlando, and I thought it would help to soften the look even more. Plus, it helped for the rainy evening!

(Umbrella: Kate Spade, White button up & necklace: Madewell,  Plaid skirt: H&M,  Quilted bag: Rebecca Minkoff,  rose gold heels: Seychelles, Vegan leather jacket: F21, Rose gold watch: Marc Jacobs)
I'm a teacher by day, so I thought it'd be fun to rock the schoolgirl look at night, inspired by the runway at Saint Laurent.  I've always been mad about plaid, so I loved this soft red mini.  I thought it paired perfectly with my favorite Madewell menswear white button up top with a ladylike bow at the collar.  My rose gold Seychelles made another appearance, and it won't be their last!  We were singing in the rain in the CWE, so of course my Kate Spade umbrella had to accompany me.

(Army Jacket: Old Navy, Cream Chiffon Tank, F21, Black Jeans: H&M, Boots: Target)

My outfit was all about rocker chic, with an edgy army green military jacket and tough biker boots. I just can't seem to get away from that rough, sassy band wife look. I love to soften my look with dainty feminine details: the flowy chiffon blouse, a delicate gold infinity necklace and my signature tiny crossbody bag.

Well Dressed Midwest sure knows how to throw a party! The night was full of facetime with some truly talented local brands, and we got to pick up some great pieces for the upcoming fashion week events. How cute are the girls from Bronx Diba Shoes? Sharon snagged one of their adorable hats for a steal of a deal. We wish that we'd all gotten matching friendship hats...but maybe next time.

The night sort of felt like an amazing girls slumber party (although we were joined by some amazing dude bloggers as well!). There was a hair chalk station with the lovely ladies from Kink Hair, and Brooke was able to fulfill her longtime dream of having purple hair by getting some pretty purple streaks. (I'm totally on the hunt for more of that hair chalk! Must have immediately!)

Glik also hosted a flash tattoo station; beautiful metallic tattoos, we can't get enough. Sharon's hand tattoos were adorable! (And how cute is her new hat!)

Paula trIed on these sparkly loafers from Lookie Lou that totally captured our hearts.

The fabulous Shirt Kong (which we HIGHLY recommend if you are in the STL area and needing some screen printing done) had a live printing press during the event. They were printing shirts in a variety of colors and design combos right before our eyes for bloggers to take home that evening.

All in all, the Well Dressed Midwest Blogger Lounge was a wonderful evening. We can't wait to see what's up their sleeves for all of the upcoming STLFW events!

Local Loves Orlando Edition: Rifle Paper Co.

October 2, 2014

Sharon here! As some of you may know, my husband and I just recently took a trip down to Orlando, where my husband is from. We did a lot of sightseeing around his old neighborhood, but also visited some beaches and shops while we were down South. Upon deciding to take a trip down to Florida, I knew we would have to stop in one of my favorite designer's stores, Rifle Paper Co. You may have seen some Rifle items on previous Trending Tuesday posts. We love Rifle around here, and we cannot get enough of those beautiful florals and other designs. So I wanted to give you a peak into their one and only store located in Orlando.

Those gold flamingoes in the window just tickled me with giddiness! Rifle Paper Co. is located in Winter Park, just 15 minutes north of Orlando. This store is actually the location of their corporate office, which is literally on the other side of this beautiful wallpaper wall that you are greeted by upon entering the building. So in aweeeeeee!

One great thing about the store is that they have beautifully arranged fresh flowers all over. It adds such a soft (and even more feminine) touch to the whole place. They were gorgeous.

If you are in the area, this store is a must. It's very small, but you can easily spend a couple hours here. And don't worry about overstaying your welcome. The staff is super friendly, and they're used to having admirers linger around for hours, and they love it, because their such big fans of the product as well!
