Kitten Love: Oliver James

August 1, 2014

It's no secret, I love kittens. They're adorable: furry, sweet and full of lovely purring sounds. Am I at risk for becoming a crazy cat lady? Probably. At least my husband thinks they are equally adorable.

As I write this, there is a warm little feline curled up in my lap sleeping - which is one of the best things in the world. Randall and I have been talking about our mutual love for kittens for some time now, and this love has progressed over the last few months to a strong desire to adopt. One day, scanning the internet for the perfect new Buchanan, I found this little guy.

An adorable 12 week old tabby ball of fluff with a distinctive short tail. Randall and I both fell in love from the picture alone, and I frantically opened an adoption application and started typing away - praying that no one else would swoop in to adopt this little cutie before we could.

We partnered with a fantastic local organization called Pet Rescue Network to adopt our dear kitty. They are a volunteer based non-profit that fosters pets in loving homes until they find their new families. The volunteers were so helpful; we loved that they knew so much about his personality and obviously cared for him. After one visit, we were sold!

After deciding that just one kitty would be enough (Randall had to convince me on that one), we brought him home and settled on the name Oliver James - after one of my most favorite Fleet Foxes songs. Oliver just seems fitting for an adorable, cuddly kitten.

It has been so wonderful to have Oliver around. July has been full of change for us, and as much as I love it - change can be challenging for me. Randall and I both started new jobs over the past few weeks (which we love!) but he had to travel the first week of his job. I had promised him that if he didn't buy me a kitten before he left, then I would get one while he was gone. It was so wonderful to have a little kitten meowing with excitement to see me while Randall was away!

You may be wondering, boy - does that little purrito do anything but sleep! I can assure you that he runs and gets into all sorts of shenanigans (particularly at times when he should be sleeping), but he's much easier to photograph when he's still. Ha!

Needless to say, we are totally in love! If you're in the St. Louis area and in the market for a new furry family member - I can't say enough wonderful things about Pet Rescue Network. They definitely deserve your support!

He's also a great blogging partner. During the session's he's awake for, at least. Go out and get yourself a kitten!
