Summertime Favorites: Movie Night

August 28, 2014

Hello all! This past weekend, with the weather being hot and sticky, we thought we'd get together for a cozy movie night. After we had recently watched Zach Braff's "Wish You Were Here," (read our review) we were all reminiscing about one of our other favorite Zach Braff movies, "Garden State."  We also made our own popcorn and, of course, enjoyed one of our favorite desserts, s'mores!

Enjoying the last bit of sunlight before going in for our movie.

Sweet little Atticus got his first haircut this weekend, and he's growing up into a handsome little man!

Sharon made our favorite garlic popcorn and s'mores with ice cream for the evening.

Paula's pup, Maya asking us for some popcorn.

About to enjoy our movie!!

Support Local Crafters!

August 27, 2014

We love craft shows. Especially those that support local artists and crafters. It's fun supporting people in their own crafts, but it makes us feel like so much more part of the community to help those around us in what they love doing. Recently, one of the local breweries in town, Urban Chestnut, hosted an indie craft show organized by St. Louis Craft Mafia (is that not the greatest name for a craft community??). So we decided to go check it out!

It was totally beautiful outside (this was before the heat wave of 2014 hit STL..we're still sweating), a perfectly picturesque night! We had loads of fun connecting with new crafters and seeing some familiar faces (we're talking Creature Type's Beyonce Card....so awesome!).

Some of our favorite local vendors included Bohemian Babies, Just Liv, and Rack & Clutch. Check out this shop on wheels!! We can't wait for the next STL Craft Mafia event.

Isn't this truck amazing???

Check out STL Craft Mafia for more craft events around St. Louis!

Music Monday: Of Monsters and Men

August 25, 2014

Music always fills me with whimsical nostalgia. It's strange how music can have that effect on you - invoking a heightened sense of memory. Certain songs or albums often remind me of special moments in my life; I can remember that season of my life vividly.

In my birthday wishlist post, my top item was Of Monsters and Men's My Head is an Animal album on vinyl. This album is one of those that somehow became very significant to me. When I listen to it, I can feel the warm summer breeze of the day that I first heard it. I remember the iced green tea that was my go to drink over those hot months, and my favorite past time was waking up early with the sun for a 5am Pilates class. This was a good season for me.

Much has changed in my life, but I love how these tunes take me right back to those sweet moments. Music has that unique power of making you feel somehow more alive when you listen to it. Of Monsters and Men is "soundtrack to life" kind of music for me. You know, when you find something that is so your style that you know it will be in the movie about your life? This is it. It's folky and magical - I seriously can't get enough. I'm ready for a new record already!

Love Stories: S & S

August 20, 2014

Sharon here! Today I am celebrating three years with my wonderful husband. Shane has been one of the greatest things to have ever happened to me, and I'm so happy that we get to celebrate another year together.

How Shane and I met seems like something straight out of a movie. Kind of unreal, but these events happened exactly as I describe them. Shane and I met when he was working at Starbucks. A friend and I were coming in to hang out and catch up. Shane, being the sweet, charming stud he is, decided he needed to talk to me and would do whatever he could to try. It started as soon as my friend and I walked in asking me if it was cold outside. Then he offered us a free second round of drinks. Then he was giving us free pastries. After he ran out of food to give us, he went on his break and asked me to watch his laptop for him. And then after getting ice cream next door, he decided to have a real conversation with us. He wasn't giving up! A little side note here, I'm the type of person who doesn't really like to be approached by guys, and, at the time, I kind of wanted him to leave us alone. But because I'm kind of shy, he noticed this. He knew the only way he'd get to talk to me was by talking up my friend. Once they realized that they're both into playing music and that their bands could jam together, they exchanged myspace URLS. Yes, MySpace (oh the memories of angled selfies and top eights are pouring in).

A few days later, my friend called me to tell me that Shane messaged her to ask for my myspace account (all this myspace stuff is so embarrassing!!!) and told her that I was the most beautiful and stunning girl he's ever met (I promise these are his words. I would never say that about myself!) I lost my breath and was so shocked and flattered since I thought I was being so rude to him at the store. So after a few messages back and forth, he gave me his phone number, and it was actually me who reached out to him and initiated our first "date." I say that with quotes cause I was trying to play it safe in case he was a super weirdo. He still gives me crap about not calling it our first date. Haha. But we had so much fun and now I'm proud to call it our first date and more proud to call him my husband.

Shane and I have been through so much together. As we were dating, our relationships with God only became stronger. We helped to encourage each other and pray for each other, which strengthened our relationship as well. Seeing the changes that God had made in us through the other made it clear to me that we were meant for each other. And it's true. Marriage has only helped us to be closer friends, growing closer through the tough times and fonder through the best times. I couldn't imagine life without him and am so happy that God has put him in my life. So here's to three years with my boo and prayers for many many more.

Happy anniversary to my Shane!

Trending Tuesdays: #indigogo

August 19, 2014

I have always loved blue. That's part of the reason why I needed to incorporate it into my kitchen cabinets! And now, there's a new blue trend. Indigo dye! (Side note my kitchen cabinet paint color was actually called Indigo Batik!) Indigo dyed linens and other objects have got me in awe at its beautiful designs and hues. Take a look for yourself, and maybe you'll fall head over heels in blue too!

August 10th - National S'mores Day!

August 18, 2014

Hope you had a good weekend! Did you know last Sunday, August 10th was National S'mores Day? Well, there was no way we were going to let it slip by without us noticing. Especially since we LOVE s'mores! Even (one of our) favorite local ice cream places in town serves a s'mores custard, and it is absolutely delicious, and Paula's favorite! So in honor of one of our favorite treats, we decided to celebrate with a s'mores cake that we were dreaming about back in June in our Sweet Summertime Favorites post. Refer to this recipe for more!

Yum! It may not have turned out as flawless as the professional's, but boy was it delicious! Our s'more craving has certainly been satisfied. Happy National S'mores Day!

Our Style + an exciting announcement...

August 15, 2014

This weekend we headed to the city with one of our favorite local photographers, Savannah, to capture some of our favorite personal style pieces!

Dress: H&M, Belt: Urban Outfitters, Earrings: J.Crew, Shoes: Nine West, Gold Cuff: Ziezo (RIP), Purse: Rebecca Minkoff
My style can be described as romantic, girly, bold, and unique.  I like to stand out (could you guess, based on this mustard yellow dress)?  My style icons are Audrey Hepburn and Zooey Deschanel.  A little bit classy and a little bit sassy.  :)

I love shopping at little known boutiques where the workers know you by name.  Ziezo was my favorite store in all of St. Louis, and I was so sad when they closed their doors this winter.  I still have all of the pieces I bought from there and probably will never part with them because they all hold so many memories...wearing the green Free People Romper at all the summer concerts in 2012; the lace Dolce Vita dress I wore for Valentines Day; my first pair of Seychelles; and for this shoot, the gold cuff that my husband bought me for my 30th birthday.

Geraldine Stutz who began her career as the shoe editor at Glamour and helped launch Andy Warhol was once asked the difference between mere fashion and true style.  Her answer was: "Fashion says 'me too', style says, 'only me'."   I tend to agree.

Savannah brought us to an abandoned church in the city with these beautiful ivy covered walls. We were in love. It was so fun partnering with her for these photos. Something truly magical happens when creative minds come together to make something beautiful.

Top: Urban Outfitters, Belt: thrifted, Jeans: H&M, Shoes: H&M, Necklace: Urban Outfitters

I'd define my style as rocker-chic with a glimmer of 70's inspiration. As you can also see, I have a love affair with H&M. Typically, when I'm picking out an outfit, it's hard for me to get away from black. It's a staple of mine that I can't seem to let go of. But these shoes! Can we talk about these fabulous shoes? My husband actually picked these out for me, and I absolutely adore them. It's hard to resist wanting to pair them with every outfit that I own! They're the perfect cobalt-periwinkle mix.

Style for me is usually easygoing. I can respect a girl that can walk all day in super cute heels (thankfully Paula & Sharon are BOTH these kind of girls because I sometimes feel abnormally tall around them!). As for me, I rock flats like nobody's business. I love simple and natural - laid back styles that accentuate beauty. Simple make up and hair styles highlighting naturally lovely features, that's my jam!

When I'm not sporting my classic black (which is pretty rare), I tend to gravitate towards earthy, natural colors. I'm inspired by Stevie Nicks, the Olsen twins and anything that a 70's rocker girlfriend would wear.

Paula requested a "Charlie's Angels" pose. I believe that it wasn't the first time she'd suggested this...

Top/Necklace/Shoes: Hong Kong, Bottoms: Forever 21

My style ranges from grandma to tomboy. It really just depends on what the day calls for. I love thrifting for outfits. This also helps me feel unique in my style and proud of my savings! Now that I'm getting older, I am starting to feel like my style is (very) slowly graduating into a more mature, simple style. Of course, this isn't always the case, because I will always feel young at heart, and throwing out clothes seems like a sin. Plus, the boho will always intrigue me. But because I will always look like I'm 15, my style needs to express my true identity as a professional (I mean, I am an accountant after all. I can't always look like I'm still in high school!).

More recently, I've been inspired by designers Lisa Hackwith and Elizabeth Suzann. Both these women design such beautiful pieces with simple lines and a simple color scheme that are absolutely stunning. Their designs aim for that more mature, simple style, which is perfect for me. You can still feel young, but also feel like a strong confident woman. I like that.

And now, it's what you've all been waiting for... We have a very special announcement! This October, we'll be attending St. Louis Fashion Week! We'll have the opportunity to partner with local designers and artists to build the fashion community in our amazing city. Through the entire week, we'll be bringing you updates on all the latest STLFW news! We feel so blessed and so excited for this great opportunity to be involved in such a huge fashion event right here in St. Louis. We cannot wait to be right there in the excitement of it all. If you are interested in attending, go to their website here for more information. But if not, stay tuned in October, and we'll be sure to give you the scoop!
